The weekends are chock full of Block Training where you’ll ride back-to-back days of Sweet Spot on climbs and trails. In order to successfully race for 3 or 6 days around Breckenridge this August, you’ll need to ride a TON of Sweet Spot! This plan incorporates plenty of Sweet Spot and some threshold work too so you’ll be ready for those 10-30 minute climbs at altitude across multiple days!

You’ll use the terrain instead of the timer to achieve 45 > 60 > 90 minutes of Sweet Spot on epic rides as you prepare your legs & lungs for this 3 or 6-day stage race. The long trail rides get you mentally prepared to be on your bike that long too!

This plan includes all the “marginal gains” details to get even faster: Recovery Techniques, Rest Days, Yoga and Foundation work – all you need is a physical therapy style rubber band and MOTIVATION! There are instructional videos in the plan for you to follow along at home.

Choose the Basic Plan if you are a Sport Class/40+ rider and have 4-8 hours to train per week

  1. Andy Lueck

I was worried about the amount of riding needed for this race but the plan worked – trust the plan. The long weekend rides not only worked on my physical fitness but helped with the physchological fitness needed for long hours on the saddle in the woods.
My fitness hasn’t been hire in the 4 years I’ve been using Training Peaks, really excited for the next plan and the ability ride out all these gains.
Favorite part of this plan is the less structured, long weekends. Too much structure (intervals) tends to burn me out and the ability to just go out and ride hard and have fun gave me the ability to hit reset and just enjoy riding.

I used this plan for the 2017 Breck Epic. I purchased the advanced version which had a larger volume, especially on weekends. The plan was staggered in such a way that, if I was unable to go for the full duration, I was still able to squeeze in the much needed interval work.
Coming from sea-level to race the Breck Epic might’ve been my biggest hurdle. I knew going in that I would be very limited by the altitude. That being said, the training plan provided me with excellent workouts that gave me the confidence to trust my fitness on the grueling fire road climbs and the general length of each day.
