Our Leadville 100 Training Plan, starts June 30th (!) for the August 11th, 2018 race.

You’ve got your coveted slot into the Leadville 100, now it’s time to log the miles in for this legendary high altitude mountain bike race!

This plan will prep you for the grueling alpine climbs in Leadville with gobs of Sweet Spot and Threshold plus a dab of anaerobic work during the week. The weekends are full of long rides up to 8 hours with plenty of climbing that will give you a chance to test your fueling plans as well as your saddle fit! There’s also plenty of low aerobic endurance work to help you build that mitochondrial density that will make you more efficient on race day.  Read more about Leadville 100 training here.

This plan starts with a 20min Field Test so you can set your wattage and heart rate zones in the included FasCat Training Zones worksheet. Heart rate is especially important for this race so you can properly pace yourself for a race where the lowest point is over 9,000 feet above sea level!

Additionally, this plan includes all the “marginal gains” details to get even faster: Recovery Techniques, Rest Days, Yoga (free YogaGlo Membership!!) and Foundation work – all you need is a physical therapy style rubber band and MOTIVATION! There are instructional videos in the plan for you to follow along at home. You’ll perform structured interval work during the week with the option to get out on epic trail rides on the weekends!

This is a great plan. I followed it leading up to the stage race last weekend and ended up beating my goal time by over an hour and placed top 10 in my age group. All of this being my first MTB race Can’t wait to tackle the 100 next week 💪🏻

    Coach Frank,

I completed the Leadville 6 week plan and raced last Saturday. I went for the advanced plan aiming for a 9 hour finish. I was off that pace a bit; however, feeling super strong and confident. This was my second Leadville.

Everything changed at mile 48.5 when my chain broke. From that moment until I left the Columbine aid station was 92 minutes. At that point all of my goals changed. I left the aid station at 6:47. Once I reset I was going to ride as hard as I could until something broke again or I finished. Heading into the final 10-15 miles I realized I could possibly make a sub 12… I then wanted to be the last guy at 11:59! I was pushing hard and blew up on the Boulevard at the 11:55 mark. I finished in 12:09.

With the training I had put in, I had the confidence to ride as hard as I could knowing my day should have been a DNF. One of the biggest compliments I heard at the finish was a guy who told me I look like I was racing for a sub 9. I will be back with unfinished business.

Felt great at Leadville. Fitness was spot on sweet spot tempo on all the climbs and made great time up. Descents destroyed me lost lots of time there (not something the plan could fix). I would have been well under 10 if I could descend. Also the appreciated the guidance in the last week leading up to the race regarding the taper and not getting sucked into a lot of pre-rides with friends (which I would have enjoyed but likely would have hurt my race).
