What if you had a one hour climb out your backyard to train on? Well now you do with Zwift’s Alpe D Zwift. We’ll talk about using the Alpe du Zwift as a training tool – not necessarily playing the game and racing… but as a training tool to help you follow your training plan and workout better. Bringing some enhancements to FTFP’ing. The Alpe is a great way to use terrain to help you make better watts.

Another great podcast! I look forward to these every week and they never disappoint. I have been using Zwift for a while and just want to tag on a couple other things I have noticed as far as training: 1-ERG mode is great for cadence work at various wattages since you’re not chasing a gear. 2- With ERG workouts the power is generally a few watts under what is set, probably do to smoothing and minor variations in pedaling during intervals. This can be seen using Strava Summit’s workout analyzer. While this seems minor for longer intervals (maybe 2-3 watts for 8:00+), it can be pretty big for shorter intervals. Ex: I had 15 second bursts at 435, looks like they came in closer to 400 for an avg due to the trainer ramping up. Probably not a big deal. I am sure the NP for that 15 seconds was spot on. Cheers and thanks again.
Awesome podcast! Given the current reality, Zwift has temporarily filled the void of not racing or going out on group rides. Today, after listening to this podcast, I rode Alpe du Zwift for the first time. It was so much fun! I smiled as I rode past others, just like on real climbs. Haha. I’m wondering, if you have any recommendation regarding g adjusting the trainer difficulty setting on Zwift. I’ve read that the default setting replicates 50% of the real world grade. What are your thoughts on increasing the difficulty to make the ride more realistic? Is the default setting adequate enough for training for such a long climb in the real world—if we ever get to ride in the real world again. Thanks!
