1 · Race Report

Marlen Reusser (Movistar) won Stage 4, the Gevrey-Chambertin > Dijon time trial, covering the 21 km in 27:30 at 45.8 km/h, 3 seconds up on Lieke Nooijen and 17 on Demi Vollering. On a flat TT the winning margin is aerodynamics and raw power, not watts per kilo, and her ride landed right on our predicted ~318 W winning effort.

2 · What It Took to Win

318W

Reusser's 27:30 works out to an estimated ~318 W = ~4.5 W/kg at 70 kg. But a flat time trial is decided by watts divided by CdA, not watts per kilo: her winning effort is about ~1510 W/CdA (318 W at 0.21 m² of drag area). That is the number that wins. Every 50 W/CdA deficit costs about 15 seconds to Dijon at 45.8 km/h, and the Lacets de Marsannay is the only section where W/kg decides.

Aero deficit to the winnerRoughly equal toTime lost in Dijon
Down 50 W/CdA0.1 W/kg at the same CdA~15 sec
Down 100 W/CdA0.2 W/kg at the same CdA~30 sec
Down 150 W/CdA0.3 W/kg at the same CdA~45 sec
A position or equipment gain of 0.01 m² of CdA is worth about 20 seconds here at equal watts, more than most riders can find in power. That is how this ITT can hand someone yellow before Ventoux without her being the strongest climber.

Today's ride: 75 min · Threshold / FTP power
CoachCat, build me a 75-minute workout for today modeled on Tour de France Femmes Stage 4 to Dijon ITT. Today's winner rode an all-out ~27-minute threshold effort in her TT position. Give me 2 x 20 min at threshold (95-100% FTP) in your TT position, scaled to my FTP, current LEVEL and OTS, and tell me how to pace it.

What that workout looks like (2 x 20 min at threshold (95-100% FTP) in your TT position):
