What Actually Happened
Remco does 455 watts & 7.5 W/kg for 15:30 up the climb, then 300 watts on the descent for 7:45, and finishes on the flat @ 450 watts, 7.4 W/kg.
The watts are only half the equation, the other half is CdA. Our model has Remco at a CdA around 0.17, among the lowest in the pro peloton, and that is what turns 430 W into roughly 56 km/h on the flat lakeside kilometers, where nearly 90 percent of the power goes into pushing air. Ride the same 430 W at a CdA of 0.20 and the model gives back about 50 seconds on the flats alone, nearly double his 28-second winning margin. Watts win you the TT only if your CdA does not give them away.
