About Frank Overton

Frank founded FasCat Coaching in 2002 and has been a full time cycling coach since 2004 and a USA Cycling Level 1 coach since 2006. His educational background includes a Masters degree in Physiology from North Carolina State University, pre-med from Hampden-Sydney College. Professionally Frank comes from medical school spinal cord research and molecular biotechnology.  However, to this day it is a dream come true for Frank to be able to help cyclists as a coach.

These days (2019) I primarily coach masters road, gravel, fondo, time trial, mountain bike and cyclocross athletes who want to take their training serious and have fun along the way.

Frank raced competitively first as a semi-pro mountain biker and then as a category 1 roadie for 10 years. Drawing on his mountain bike strengths, he was a good a road cyclist but excelled in time trials. After the 2005 season, he “retired” to dedicate more energy to being a coach and a family man. This allowed Frank to take on projects like working for the Priority Health Professional Cycling Team in 2006 as well as the US National Team in Europe for the 2007 World Cup Race Season.

Frank started training with power in 2001 and couldn’t have become the athlete or the coach, he is today without such a training tool. “Power Based Training allows me to utilize my sport science background to maximize athletic performance in ways that just are not possible without power”

I am a huge advocate of proper nutrition so nutrition coaching is included in my Catch level coaching, for weight loss, performance and optimal recovery.  Want to lose 5-10 lbs? No problem, let’s start by Winning In the Kitchen, riding more and I’ll coach you along the way

Training with power is a large part of  Frank and FasCat’s Coaching philosophy but not the end all. “We teach athletes how to train, race and perform, yet we rely heavily on getting to know the athlete and listening to their feedback. Frank draws from his own experiences as a racer & a coach to help his athletes and all FasCat athletes. Frank uses a hands on approach to motivate athletes by showing them what they are capable of.

Before cycling, Frank still wanted to help people, just thru medicine.  But along the way, Frank caught the cycling bug. Post college he spent two years researching nerve regeneration in spinal cord injuries at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine.  During his Masters in Physiology, Frank started racing mountain bike collegiately and then the lure of Colorado and a job in biotechnology was too strong.  For five years Frank raced bikes and worked in biotechnology, ultimately earning US Patent #7202067. “But in 2004, I left biotechnology for good and became a full time coach and part time racer – been living the dream ever since!”.
